Zombieland hitting the small screen

After the massive success of the season 2 premiere of “The Walking Dead” on AMC, Sony Pictures Television has decided to jump on the bandwagon.

Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been hired to transform the movie into a half hour zom-com. If you are worried about the integrity of the movie, the duo wrote the original film. Sony wants the series developed and ready to premiere in the 2012/2013 season.

Apparently the duo pitched the orginal concept of Zombieland as a TV series to CBS in 2005. After changes and rewrites, CBS passed. Syfy took a look at it, but couldn’t come up with the money for the zombie fest. Which worked out in everyone’s favor because that paved the way for the hilarious and quick-to-cult-fame film.

A sequel to the film is in development, but if the series moves forwards the sequel will be scrapped.

The writing pair has also just signed on to work with J.J. Abrams on “Micronauts”
