Nintendo confirm Wii 2: Electric boogaloo

Nintendo’s Statement:

Nintendo has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis between its launch in 2006 and the end of March 2011.

We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles.

We have seen a bit of silence from the House of Mario for a while, which has led many to theorize the development of a new console before this release today.

Rumors are abound. From having touchscreen controllers to being a beefier system than the Ps3 or XBox 360. Obviously we won’t know until June what is actually in store for the Project Cafe.

IGN has a source that apparently confirmed the controllers will have 6″ screens in each controller. Not only that, but the games will be able to be played directly from the controller screen if you should choose to play there instead of your TV.

Are you going to pick up the new system? What do you think Nintendo will reveal?
